VIDEO | Daily morning egg hunt at Schmidt Century Farm | By Deanna Schmidt

West Bend, WI – Although there is an enclosed nesting area for the ducks and geese, they’ve taken to just laying eggs wherever they please and so the daily morning ritual at Schmidt Century Farm is similar to an Easter egg hunt.

It’s somewhat entertaining to find the hiding places. Most of the eggs are just scattered around the yard while others, including the goose eggs, are tucked in deep at the base of the pine trees.

There’s one crafty duck that likes to drop just one egg, about 2-yards deep in a thicket in a corner by the house.

Rodee, who is now 8, feeds the animals and collects eggs after school as part of his chores. It’s really a fun treasure hunt for him.

The geese are laying now in Spring. But their season is short lived. Best to get the goose eggs while you can at the Farm Store, open Thursday through Saturday.

The daily harvest at Schmidt Century Farm varies between 17 eggs to as many as 20. The birds are well fed. They’re noisy …. but happy and can be seen from the road splashing around in their pool or parading around the yard.

Know your farmer, know your food at Schmidt Century Farm.
