WI – Since neighbors in West Bend, WI are wrapped around the enjoyable saga of The Potted Owl, which features a Great Horned owl that’s nested in a flowerpot on a 3rd floor balcony, we thought we’d bring you this tidbit from the Wisconsin DNR.
Earlier this month, a DNR conservation warden received a call from a local sheriff’s office that two bald eagles were found on a walking trail. When the warden responded, thankfully, they were alive and alert but were found to have their talons locked together.

These two eagles may have been engaging in “talon-grappling,” a normal behavior that is usually due to courtship or aggression.
With guidance from DNR wildlife experts, the warden was able to carefully remove a stick that was grasped between their talons and successfully disconnect the pair. The eagles then flew away safely.
If you find bald eagles that appear injured or behaving oddly, contact a local wildlife rehabilitator and keep your distance.
On a side note: Check out The Potted Owl. According to Christine Mertes a male and female Great Horned Owl have found a home in a flowerpot on her fourth-floor balcony.
“A wild Great Horned Owl just showed up on our balcony on March 12th and made her nest in a flowerpot! We are following her journey,” wrote Mertes on social media.
Mertes has named the mother owl River and determined the pair of owls are sitting on two eggs.

Mertes placed a camera on the nest and captured some outstanding National-Geographic type footage.
