Dodge Co., WI – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department will hold a press conference Wednesday, June 3, 2024 at 1 p.m. regarding investigations into four deaths that occurred at Waupun Correctional Institution in Waupun, WI.
These deaths occurred in June of 2023, October of 2023 (2) and February of 2024.
When: 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024
Where: Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, 124 West St, Juneau, WI in the Second Floor Emergency Operations Center.
The investigations into the four deaths have concluded and based on the public interest and transparency, it is appropriate to release some details of those investigations.
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt and other officials will lay out a high-level overview of the events which occurred during these four deaths and what accountability actions will be taken as a result.
We will also lay out deficiencies identified through this investigation in the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, which the public needs to be aware of.
The investigations were challenging, as is any death investigation, and we appreciate the public’s patience as each instance was thoroughly investigated by our criminal investigations division.
