October 15, 2021 – West Bend, WI – Good Day Brunch Cafe, 2400 W. Washington Street, is on the Monday agenda in the City of West Bend as the new Greek restaurant seeks approval for a liquor license.
It was July 17, 2021 when the announcement was made on WashingtonCountyInsider.com that the location formerly home to Perkins Restaurant had been sold.
Kostas Katris, 50, owner of at least nine other establishments in the Fond du Lac area, is the new owner.
“We’ll have a full menu for breakfast and lunch,” said Katris. “We’ll open around 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. and stay open until 3 p.m.”
The design of the new restaurant, according to Katris, was to “not look like Perkins.”
Katris has removed the green and yellow awnings from the exterior of the building. The doors out front are being replaced.
Inside is a mix of rustic browns behind the front counter with walls the color of bright mustard yellow and burnt red and sheets of silver corrugated metal from the floor to the chair rail surrounding the interior.
“We have new bathrooms, new ceilings, new kitchen equipment, new coolers…. we changed everything,” Katris said.
While the change over has been noticeable, Katris said he is currently experiencing delays in shipping of some materials.
“I’m not sure we’ll get the shipments in time but we’ll continue construction,” he said.
Middle of November is a target opening, however Katris said if the grills and stoves don’t arrive then they’re a bit handcuffed.
“They initially said 4 to 8 weeks for equipment to arrive… and now they tell me 12,” he said.
Katris is originally from Greece. He came to the U.S. in 1988 when he was 17 years old. “I have a lot of people from West Bend come to Fond du Lac and Faros Restaurant,” he said.
The Katris family has been in the restaurant business for generations.
Katris listed the local restaurants he owns in the Fond du Lac area including Faros Restaurant & Cocktails in Fond du Lac, Sunset on the Water on Lake Winnebago, and Capones Bar & Restaurant in Malone.
Good Day Brunch Cafe will offer traditional American food with some Greek flair on the menu.
“I like the U.S. because there is opportunity,” he said. “You can start from zero and become whatever you want and there is no limit on how high you can get. For the working people that want to do better for their life America is the best country to be in.”
