West Bend, WI – James Danaher, West High School boys head soccer coach, has received the Prudence Pick Hway Coach of the Year Award.
Danaher’s 2023 West boys soccer team notched an 18-4-4 record, the best record in
school history.
Other team accomplishments include:
● 102 goals scored—a single-season record
● 21 goals scored against—a single-season record
● 2 WIAA All-State Players
● 2 First Team All-North Shore Conference players, 2 Second Team All-North Shore
Conference players, 1 Honorable Mention All-North Shore Conference player
● Number 1 WIAA Sectional seed—first in school history
● Number 10 WIAA Ranking—first in school history
● WIAA Regional Champions
● WIAA Sectional Finalist—first time in school history
The award was established in 2015 by Prudence Pick Hway, granddaughter of Carl Pick, to
recognize a West Bend High Schools athletic team coach whose character and
accomplishments during the previous school year best exemplify several criteria. The award is voted on by East and West coaching peers.
Criteria include:
● A positive role model to students in all respects; he or she has demonstrated consistent and outstanding sportsmanship, leadership, and a positive and motivational attitude.
● Is committed and dedicated to the team’s overall development over the entire season.
● Coaches at the highest standard throughout the season ensuring the team’s success.
● Always demonstrates that the success and wellbeing of each student is his or her highest priority.
