Man accused of setting fire to Congressman’s office held on $500K cash bond

January 23, 2025 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – Caiden Sage Stachowicz made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County court stemming from a January 19, 2025 early morning fire at United States Congressman Glenn Grothman’s District Office, located in the City of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

The complaint alleges the defendant set fire to Congressman Grothman’s Office because the Congressman voted “Yes” to require a sale of Tik Tok.

The defendant is charged with Arson, Terrorist Threat, Attempted Burglary, and Criminal Damage to Property. Cash bond was set at $500,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 30, 2025, at 2 p.m. in front of Judge Tricia Walker.

“We are grateful for the quick actions of the Fond du Lac Police and Fire Departments that ensured nobody was injured in this attack and prevented more significant property damage,” said Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney.  “We will continue to aggressively prosecute anyone that attempts to intimidate government officials from performing their lawful duties, regardless of whether we agree with the government action.”

The matter remains under investigation by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department with assistance from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.
