Letter to the Editor | Vote Anderson for County Supervisor District 2 | By Deb Anderson

March 24, 2022 – Washington County, WI – When I moved to West Bend in 1982, after 16 years as a Navy wife, I was welcomed warmly. When I went through my divorce, I was supported by friends as though they were family. When I remarried in 1988, the people who attended the reception filled the hall as if I had lived here all my life. I was home.

For most of the years until today, I have worked to give back that love, to contribute to this amazing community.

I organized Washington County volunteers to travel to Milwaukee every week for a year to rehab a home for Habitat for Humanity. I have been the Executive Director for two non-profits that worked to enhance the lives of vulnerable people, Citizen Advocacy and Senior Citizens Activities, Inc. (the West Bend senior center). I have served on Boards such as United Way, the West Bend Library, Lac Lawrann, and currently, the senior center and NAMI. In 2009, I was elected to serve as Alderman for District 7 (known as the Barton area).

Through those experiences and the relationships with so many people throughout Washington County, I believe I share the values that make our community strong. My friends, co-workers, family members share the desire to go to work, raise their families, live their lives in peace. They want to be confident that while they address their daily challenges, the infrastructure around them can be trusted to do the same.

This means that they trust the garbage will be picked up on time. The street lights will change as needed. The police will protect our streets and homes. The water will be clean and the parks will be safe. In other words, the government around them will quietly do the job our taxes pay them to do.

I am running for a seat on the County Board. I have a record of quietly, confidently, getting things done. I have rehabbed a house through Habitat. I have helped a subdivision connect to city sewer, preventing possible contamination to the Milwaukee River, while I was Alderman. I have moved the Senior Center to a larger location, providing for expanded programs benefitting people from age 50 to 100! I have coordinated the Concession Stand at Enchantment in the Park for 9 years. I was a part of the decision to create the pocket park outside of the Library. In each instance, positive change has happened – and only
through teamwork that required compromise and creativity from all involved.

That is community. That is how we protect life in Washington County. That is how I will work for you as County Supervisor in District 2. Please vote for me on April 5.
