The school’s 2.5-year accreditation process began after the move to its current building, which continues to see renovations and updates as the school expands its offerings and enrollment. The accreditation process outlines eight standards ranging from Philosophy and Foundations to Home and Community Relations.

OCS staff and board members formed eight groups to tackle ACSI’s 98 indicators of
these standards. Cassie Voisin, who organized schedules and hosted ACSI’s visiting accreditation team said, “It was amazing to see how the OCS team worked together to get the accreditation. There was a lot of hard work and detail that went into this on top of the work they were already doing and everyone chipped in. We knew that digging deep and reviewing our systems would make us a better school.”

Jen Beck, a teacher who worked with a group addressing the accreditation standard of Instructional Program and Resources, saw that the 2.5-year effort led to growth and improvement.

“The process allowed for critical discussions among staff members of the impact present curriculum and teaching methods have on student learning. It also allowed staff to grow in our methods to reach all learners.” ACSI’s team commended OCS for its excellence in the standard of Character, Values, and Student Spiritual Formation.

Deb Gruenwald, a teacher who retired partway through the accreditation process, returned to ensure that this standard was met for future students. She was a part of the group that she says established “more leadership and outreach opportunities for service and missions,” among other new programs and practices to enrich the students’ spiritual health.

The accreditation from ACSI will last for the next six years, during which time representatives from ACSI will periodically check back in with OCS to ensure that the standards continue to be met. OCS has begun a continuous improvement plan to ensure that the school achieves excellence above and beyond the requirements ACSI puts forth. OCS believes that under God’s direction, these long-term plans will achieve the
OCS mission of drawing students and families to a deeper understanding of God and his creation.

In partnership with parents and churches, OCS integrates faith with learning using biblical principles to capture each student’s heart and mind for Christ. OCS is dedicated to academic excellence with a uniquely Christian perspective—one that places Jesus at the center of everything they do and acknowledges the Bible as the ultimate authority.
