Dec. 16, 2017 – Theresa, WI – At 2:57 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office began taking 911 calls of a serious injury crash at the intersection of (State Highway) STH 28/67/175 and STH 28 (east) in the Township of Theresa or about one mile north of the Village of Theresa.
A passenger car was westbound on STH 28 and entered the intersection in front of a northbound passenger car on STH 28/67/175. East and westbound traffic at that intersection is controlled by stop signs and north and southbound traffic is not controlled.
The driver of the westbound car was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A child passenger in the car was taken by paramedic ambulance to a children’s hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. The westbound car was operated by a 35-year-old Reeseville man. The 8-year-old child passenger was the only other occupant.
The driver of the northbound car was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It was operated by a 60-year-old woman from Theresa. There were no passengers in her car.
The crash remains under investigation, but failing to yield right of way from a stop sign and lack of restraint use are initial factors in the occurrence of and seriousness of the crash. This is the second serious injury crash at the same intersection within two weeks. Failing to yield right of way from the stop sign and lack of seat belt use were the leading factors in the recent previous crash and seriousness of those injuries, as well.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the crash by Theresa Fire Department and EMS, Mayville EMS, Fond du Lac Paramedics, Theresa Police Department, and DCERT. The intersection was closed for less than two hours while the crash scene was investigated and cleared.
Names will not be released for at least 24 hours of this notice.
