February 12, 2021 – Jackson, WI – The march to the WIAA state title began Friday night for the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers, who wasted little jumping out to a 15-5 opening run to start the Division 2 WIAA regional semifinal game against Grafton.
The ball movement and overall defensive position was just flat out better by the Chargers throughout most of the game. The Chargers also avoided unnecessary three-point shots in the game, but the tradeoff seemed to be hesitating on a lot of shooting opportunities, both open and contested.
Grafton started building momentum heading into halftime including a buzzer beating three-pointer as they trailed 30-21.
However, the second half was a nightmare shooting for the Black Hawks, with most shots failing to find their mark and immediately recovered by the Chargers.
A series of three-pointers from the Chargers mid-way through the second half completely sapped much of the remaining energy the Black Hawks and the Chargers cruised to a 57-41 victory.
The Chargers were led by senior Emma Thistle with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Grafton’s leading scorer was junior Ashely Weir with 10 points.
The Chargers play in the regional finals of their bracket and for a trip to sectionals on Saturday February 13, at 7 p.m. at Kewaskum.
