A quiet effort of goodwill went down at the Full Shelf Food Pantry in West Bend on Tuesday morning as junior members of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club made a strong donation.
Ali Vollmar, 15, a sophomore at Slinger High School, said the club started collecting food on July 4 during its Family Day. “We really haven’t done any community service projects and thought it would be good to start now,” Vollmar said.
Vollmar arrived with Yacht Club member Phillip Thoma, 16, and the pair hauled in several boxes of food donations.
“This was our junior project,” said Thoma. “We haven’t donated too much in the past and thought it would be good to help our community.”
Amid the bustle of daily operations, Roger Liebetrau accepted the donation on behalf of the Full Shelf Food Pantry.
“This gives the students a chance to feel good about themselves and the needy in this county are appreciative about what they receive,” said Liebetrau. “The more we get the more we can give back out to the community.”
There are about 70 junior sailors that participate at the Cedar Lake Yacht Club. “This makes me feel good that we can be part of making a difference in the community,” said Vollmar.
