Jan. 18, 2019 – West Bend, WI – Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing, 1200 N. Main Street, had a visit from the West Bend Fire Department this month as the local auto repair shop works in partnership with first responders and firefighters in the community.
This is their fourth year Bob’s Main Street Auto has helped the West Bend Fire Department with training new firefighters and EMTs to ensure they understand what to do in situations where extraction tools and Jaws of Life are needed.
Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing provided the fire department with two salvaged vehicles in order to complete the training.
Firefighters were able to practice using extraction tools on different vehicle and in various mock rescue scenarios.
The first step in the rescue situation was to break the windows and secure the individual(s) inside the vehicle. To protect the individual(s) inside the vehicle, a blanket or board can be used. The hydraulic Jaws of Life designed to relieve pressure and pry the vehicle in order to gain access to the individual(s) trapped inside.
Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing plans to continue working with the West Bend Fire Department in future trainings.
