On Thursday April 21, 2016 at approximately 11:31 a.m., a neighbor notified the Washington County Sheriff’s Office of a possible house fire located in the 4000 block of W. Moraine Drive in the Town of Kewaskum.
Deputies and firefighters from the Kewaskum Fire Department were subsequently dispatched to the scene. Assistance was also requested from the Boltonville, Campbellsport, Kohlsville, Jackson, and West Bend Fire Departments.
Upon their arrival, deputies observed light to moderate smoke emitting from the residence.
After their arrival, firefighters quickly brought the room and contents fire under control. However, W. Moraine Drive between CTH V and Highland Drive was closed to through traffic for approximately 1.5 hours to facilitate overhaul and clean-up operations.
No residents were home at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured during its extinguishment. Unfortunately, several birds inside perished. Damage to the home and contents was estimated at approximately $75,000.
An investigation revealed that the fire likely started in an area were several baby chickens were being warmed via a heat lamp. However, the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined
