Obituary | Elizabeth A. “Betty” Mapes (nee Slavik), 91, of Kewaskum, WI

 Kewaskum, Wi – Elizabeth A. “Betty” Mapes (nee Slavik), 91, of Kewaskum passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Kettle Moraine Gardens, surrounded by loved ones. Elizabeth was born on June 12, 1933, in Newburg, WI, daughter of Wenzel and Mary (nee Gruber) Slavik. On April 13, 1953, she was united in marriage to Harold “Sonny” Mapes Jr. in Newburg, WI. Harold passed away on October 5, 2017.

Betty worked at Mallard Coach in Barton, WI, and was a Realtor for Coldwell Bankers. Betty was very active in the VFW Auxiliary with her husband. When Harold and Betty first got married, they were avid motorcyclists with a great group of friends.

Also, in their younger years they would attend and participate in various Civil War re-enactments, taking their children along on such adventures. She truly enjoyed going antiquing, and spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her sons, David (Carol McKee), Randy, and Gary (Joan); grandchildren, Kayla (Matt) Meredith, Jarrett (Michayla) Mapes, Randy Mapes Jr., Jamie Mapes, and Joanna Mapes; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hailey, Dominic, Braysin, Maverick, Myla, and Ava; siblings Patricia Mueller, Janice (Wilmer) Klahn, Jean (Sylvester) Krahn, Robert (Carolyn) Slavik, Diane Slavik, and aunt Johanna Fisher. In-laws John (Karen) Mapes and Nick Thanos; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wenzel and Mary (nee Gruber) Slavik, son Jeffery, granddaughter Rozalynn Mapes; siblings Rosemary and Roman Barth, LaVerne and Kenny Schobel, Eileen and Joseph Steger, Richard “Dickie” and Joan Slavik, Raymond Slavik, Lloyd Mueller, and uncle George Fischer. Parents-in-law Harold Sr. and Dorothy (Boerger) Mapes, Joan (Wally) Michaels, and Mary Thanos.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 5, at 12 p.m. with Rev. Jacob Strand presiding. Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (406 Jefferson St. West Bend, WI 53090) on Wednesday, February 5, at 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
