May 13, 2023 – Campbellsport, WI – At 12:20 p.m. Friday afternoon, May 12, 2023, Campbellsport Fire Department responded to N1367 Maple Drive in the Town of Auburn for a barn on fire. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible coming from the 60’x50’ barn, and the roof was collapsing.
Fire crews initiated a defensive attack while protecting the lean-to shed, and silo exposure on the north side of the structure. The collapsed roof hampered suppression efforts to extinguish burning materials under the metal material.

The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes and crews were on scene for 3 hours and 20 minutes before the fire was extinguished. All animals were outside of the barn at the time of the fire.
The property is owned by David Glass. The fire started when the manifold of a tractor working inside the barn came in contact with bedding material which then ignited. A farm hand removed the tractor from the barn and extinguished the fire on the tractor. Efforts to extinguish the fire in the barn prior to the fire department’s arrival were unsuccessful.
The barn and the contents inside were a complete loss with no damage estimates at this time. No firefighters were injured during the incident. The farm hand operating the tractor received burns to his forearm for which he refused transport to the hospital.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was utilized to the first alarm to bring in additional resources to assist with suppression efforts.
