May 6, 2020 – West Bend, WI – A couple baby Great Horned owls nesting in the wall of the old Lithia Brewery have been found dead by the Milwaukee River.
Conrad Eifert, 12, was fishing by the dam to the north of Highway 33 when he discovered them this morning.
It appears they both flew to a nearby power line and were electrocuted. The pair, near maturity, were last seen near the fence line lying next to each other.
The nest in the wall is now empty. The mother owl is nowhere to be found.
I am so sad to hear this….. I loved watching them with their Mom 💔
A true privilege to have seen the young owls & their mother in trees near the nest on the 3rd. Photographers I spoke with said they were waiting for the father to bring back prey. Was the DNR contacted? 💔
I contacted We Energies
There should be some way to better insulate these lines and prevent accidents like these!
