May 21, 2018 – West Bend, WI – There was a healthy supply of tall, green, fresh, homegrown asparagus during the Saturday, May 19, opening of the Downtown West Bend Farmers’ Market. Vendors had tubs full of asparagus, each bundle wrapped tight with a rubberband. The recipe heard most often was old timers talking about creamed asparagus on toast. It’s a foodie booth waiting to happen.
The traffic on Main Street was pretty easy to manage. Neighbors came dressed for the weather in jackets, hats and the rare umbrella. Local farmers filled orders for vegetables and flowers, flowers, flowers.

March 7, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Just a little shot of summer as neighbors await opening day of the 2018 Downtown West Bend Farmers’ Market.
Vendors with fresh asparagus, mushrooms and flowers will start selling May 19.
We’ll also be on the lookout for “Tough guys and flowers.” The photo series was sparked by a trend I noticed during my last bicycle tour in Italy where men ALWAYS seemed to be bringing flowers home for their ladies.
