May 22, 2021 – Newburg, WI – “Pretty shortly after Milwaukee I noticed engine problems. Loss of power and tried to make it to West Bend but I just couldn’t.”
Pilot Vincent Duncan Callender of Chicago picked a bean field just east of CTH M and Newark Road to safely land his plane on Friday afternoon, May 21, 2021.
“I liked the field because it was open and there were no powerlines and the soil didn’t look soft,” he said.
Duncan Callender was headed to Manitowoc in a Cessna 172. “I’ve been flying for four years and this was my first experience like this… and hopefully my last,” he said.
Nobody was hurt when Duncan Callender set his plane down around 10:51 a.m. in a field at the Seideman farm just east of Shady Lane Road and north of Newburg.
The National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, and Washington County Sheriff were on scene Friday afternoon to investigate the accident.
