May 22, 2018 – Town of Addison, WI – This past Saturday evening, May 20 at 5:28 p.m. a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy on routine patrol stopped a vehicle on I41 at CTH K in the town of Addison.
The deputy stopped the vehicle because half of the license plate was missing. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as a 54-year-old Fond du Lac man, who stated someone cut off his plate to steal the expiration sticker.
While the deputy was speaking with the driver, he noticed a different plate inside the passenger compartment. The plate not only came back to the correct vehicle that was stopped, but also reported as stolen.
The driver had multiple arrest warrants from Fond du Lac County. The driver was arrested for the warrants, operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, operation while under the influence of drugs and possession of a prescription without a valid prescription.
Follow-up to case: The lawful owners of the vehicle came to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Moday looking for additional property. It turns out the vehicle was taken during a burglary where expensive jewelry was taken. The victims described the property in question, and it turns out the suspect had some of the items on his person at the time of arrest.
