Nov. 25, 2018 – Hartford, WI – On Sunday, November 25, 2018, at approximately 2:52 a.m., Hartford Officers responded to multiple calls of a disturbance in the area of the 100 block of Union Street. Additional information was subsequently received that multiple shots had been fired in the area.
Officers met with a caller who stated they had come to a residence in that area to continue an argument they had been involved in at bar in the Village of Slinger earlier that night.
During this confrontation one of the individuals in the other group, who was not known to the caller, entered a residence on Union Street and returned with a firearm.
The suspect then discharged multiple shots into the air, took the callers cell phone and money at gunpoint, and threatened to kill them if they didn’t leave.
Investigation at the scene resulted in the recovery of multiple spent 40 caliber bullet casings and other items of evidentiary value. No persons or property appear to have been struck by the rounds that were discharged in this incident. Based on information obtained in the course of our preliminary investigation officers were ultimately able to identify the suspect in this incident.
Officers made multiple attempts to contact the suspect at his residence and by telephone with negative results. However, officers did note that it was apparent that there was activity within the suspect’s residence and the occupants were simply refusing to answer. The exterior of the residence was surveilled until a search warrant could be obtained for the residence.
At approximately 2:24 p.m., the search warrant was executed and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
A 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and an unlawfully modified sawed-off shotgun were seized pursuant to that search.
Based on the findings of this investigation, the gunman, a 33-year-old Hartford man, was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail to await a court appearance on felony charges of Armed Robbery, Recklessly Endangering Safety, Possession of a Short Barreled Shotgun, and for being a Felon in Possession of Firearms.
Additional investigation remains ongoing. No further information on this investigation is being released at this time.
All suspects enjoy the presumption of innocence, and all charges must be proved in a court of law.
