Aluminum ladder on road to blame as semi-tractor trailer flips on I41 north of County Hwy K

Oct. 28, 2017 – Town of Addison, WI – On Oct. 28,2017, at approximately 3:07 am, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a semi-tractor double trailer accident, on I41 northbound, approximately a half mile north of County Highway K, in the Town of Addison.

Arriving deputies noticed the second trailer of a double trailer configuration had twisted and flipped onto its side, laying partially in the traffic lane. There were no other vehicles involved and the truck driver was not injured.

In order to facilitate clean up and towing, Highway 41 had to be shut down to varying degrees. The right lane was shut down throughout the entire incident. A full closure was done for about 10 minutes while the Washington County Highway Department swept gravel from the roadway.

The incident remains under investigation, however, initial evidence revealed the driver of the semi-tractor saw an object in the lane of travel and abruptly swerved to avoid it, which caused the second trailer to flip onto its side.

It was later discovered that there had been an aluminum ladder on the roadway.
