August 18, 2020 – Allenton, WI – On Sunday the Allenton Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483, held a very special dedication program to honor past member Joe Reinders.
Reinders was a member of the post for 74 years. He was very active and dedicated serving as Honor Guard Captain from 1947 until 2012 for a total of 65 years.
Reinders was actually the very first and only Captain of the Honor Guard until he turned the duties over to Ralph Hagner.
Under Reinders leadership the post was able to have a presence at numerous funerals, parades in many villages, and presented colors at football games and races at the Slinger Speedway.
Reinders also served the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department for 50 plus years as an officer and Driver/Operator.
Reinders and his wife, Marlene, operated Joe’s Red Owl Grocery Store at the corner of Railroad Street and Main Street in Allenton.
Of the many accolades made Sunday, one was Joe was the epitome of an involved American Citizen. He was never afraid to give of his talents, his time or skills to help
others.
The Reinders’ family donated monies to purchase, erect and purchase State of Wisconsin Flags and American Legion Flag on a flag pole as part of the donation.
The 25-foot pole sits immediately to the left of the 35-foot flag pole that proudly flies the U.S. Flag and Wisconsin Flag.
