January 7, 2021 – Dodge Co., WI – On Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at approximately 9:01 a.m., the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident on STH 73 approximately 2/10 mile north of CTH D in the Township of Calamus, Dodge County.
Initial investigation shows that Wilhelm J. Rist, 17, from Randolph, Wisconsin was operating a Chevrolet Impala that was traveling south on STH 73 and was negotiating a curve to the left.
A 2016 Kenworth (straight truck) was traveling north on STH 73 and was negotiating the curve to the right. The Chevrolet went into a counter-clockwise spin, traveling over the center roadway line and into the northbound traffic lane where the two vehicles collided.
Rist (sole occupant) was transported to UW Hospital in Madison but was pronounced deceased a short time later. The driver (sole occupant) of the Kenworth was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Dodge County Medical Examiner.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Columbus Fire Department, DCERT, LifeStar, Dodge County Highway Department and Randolph EMS. STH 73 was closed for approximately 4 hours as the scene was being cleared and the crash was being investigated.
