West Bend, Wi – Alex Kain, the owner of A1 Health & Fitness in West Bend, WI, is helping people change their lives one day at a time. Kain is a certified coach and trainer. He started A1 Health & Fitness about 10 years ago. “We focus on the three pillars of success: fitness, nutrition, and accountability. It’s the three things people need to lose weight, get in shape, feel healthier, and move better,” said Kain.

Over the years Kain, and his team of instructors have run into different people who all found themselves in the same situation. “People want to lose weight and get in shape, but it’s just not working,” he said.
“Some people had a coach in school; they had somebody telling them what to do and telling them, how to do it. Now all of a sudden, they have to decide on their own, and they don’t know what to do,” said Kain. “We specialize in filling in those gaps.”
The nutrition part of the equation is a big part of the program at A1 Health & Fitness.
“Sometimes people will come in, and they think if I just exercise more, I’m going to lose weight,” he said. “It may help a little bit, but how you’re eating is the key. We give people customized nutrition guides, we do a personalized consultation based on their nutrition, we give them a recipe book and a grocery shopping list, along with an eating guide. It’s everything they need to start putting meals together and eat healthy again.”
The demographic at A1 Health & Fitness is across the board. “We have 16-year-olds all the way to 75,” he said. “The bulk of our clients are probably women aged 30 to 50.”
A1 Fitness & Health features an inspirational group setting and one-on-one attention. “We try to promote one on one early on, because you’re getting personalized attention and you’re going to learn things faster,” Kain said.
“Developing a relationship with the coach is important. They become aware of your personal needs and setbacks. Having someone on your side to help navigate the obstacles life throws at you is important.”
Kain said group classes are really beneficial. “You get the socialization and team aspect,” he said. “People can get a workout in and then during downtime you can hear they’re all chatting away. So you’re getting to know other people, and you’re developing relationships in class.”
While A1 Health & Fitness focuses on people’s individual needs with seven trainers on staff, the group activities help generate motivation and energy.
“You can come into class some day and just feel like you’re just not in the mood. But then all of a sudden, there’s 10 people, and you feed off the energy,” said Kain. “We do have personal training and group classes; both are equally beneficial.”
To start making changes and getting results, Kain likes to meet individually with new clients to access their situation and determine their goals.
“We are finding people want to be proactive about their situation,” he said. “We understand people have a lot of questions so we listen to their story about what they’ve tried in the past and then figure out what is going to be the best as best case scenario for them moving forward. People can come in and try a class. Our goal is to bridge the gap and what sets us apart from everybody else is the results, the guaranteed results.”
