February 13, 2020 – Kewaskum, WI – A big day at the State Capitol in Madison for Jerry Gosa of Kewaskum as he received a 2019-2020 Hometown Hero Award.
“Nominating Jerry Gosa for Hometown Hero recognition was very easy for me, because he personifies what being a hero is,” said Rep. Tim Ramthun. “He truly embodies the qualities of noble characteristics and courage, as his achievements speak volumes. This award is both well-earned and highly deserved.”
Jerry Gosa taught chemistry at Kewaskum High School for 38 years. During that time, he was also the boys and girls varsity track head coach for 25 years at Kewaskum Middle School and Kewaskum High School. He now continues to coach track at Badger Middle School in West Bend.
In addition, Jerry has served as president of Kewaskum Youth Scholarships (KEYS) since January of 1986, which has awarded over $2.14 million in scholarships to Kewaskum High School graduates to date.
On top of that, Jerry has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin 9/11Memorial Committee for nearly five years, and was instrumental in establishing the “Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial Highway” designation for the highway on which the memorial resides.
“Jerry, in numerous roles, has selflessly dedicated his life to the enhancement of young people in Kewaskum and West Bend for over four decades,” said Rep. Ramthun. “He, as an educator, mentor, model of the community, difference-maker, leader, and friend, is of the highest kind, quality, and order, supreme.”
