Obituary | Walter Joseph Schmidt, 84, of Town of Herman

January 9, 2020 – Town of Herman, WI –Walter Joseph Schmidt, “Wally”, 84, of the Town of Herman, Wisconsin passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Cedar Lake Health and Rehab Center in West Bend.

Wally was born June 3, 1935 on the family farm in the Town of Addison, WI to Margaret (nee Doll) and Emil Schmidt. He was a long-time member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Allenton. Wally was devoted to the church and was incredibly selfless, always thinking of others. Wally was a dairy farmer his entire life which he loved and enjoyed working alongside his brother Ray on their farms. Throughout his entire farming career, he supplied milk to Borden Dairy. He also enjoyed the outdoors, driving his tractors, and loved Polka music and was a dedicated WTKM listener. Wally had an outstanding memory particularly pertaining to his family history. He loved his family dearly and especially appreciated the love and support from his special nephew, Jimmy and niece, Sherry.

Wally is survived by his siblings, Joseph Schmidt of Kewaskum, Raymond (Betty) Schmidt of Allenton, sisters-in-law, Alice Schmidt of Eden and Joyce Schmidt of Kewaskum. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, dear friends: The Benson Family, among other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leander Schmidt, Ralph Schmidt; sisters, Magdalena (Eugene) Weidmeyer, Catherine (Mathias) Schickert; 2 infant brothers and 2 infant sisters; and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Darlene Schmidt.

Wally’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union Street, Hartford, WI 53027, on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., concluding with a prayer service.

Additional visitation will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church (215 Main St, Allenton 53002) on Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Peter and Paul, Nenno.

In memory of Wally and his support of various Catholic charities locally and world-wide, contributions in his name are appreciated to Resurrection Catholic Church, (P.O. Box 96, Allenton, WI 53002) or to the Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill (1525 Carmel Road, Hubertus, WI 53033) are appreciated.

The Schmidt Family would like to share their sincere gratitude to the medical staff at Aurora Medical Center-Hartford and the nursing staff at Cedar Community-West Bend for their kindness, compassion, and care Wally received.
