Obituary | Virginia M. “Ginny” Zimmerman (Klahn), 94, formerly of Slinger

October 28, 2019 – Slinger, WI – Virginia “Ginny” M. Zimmerman (nee Klahn), 94, formerly of Slinger, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Gardens of Hartford Assisted Living.

Virginia was born to George and Anna (nee Cudworth) Klahn on April 1, 1925 in the town of Greenbush. On May 19, 1945 she married Norman E. Zimmerman, of Slinger, at Zion Lutheran Church in Glenbeulah.

Virginia worked as a telephone operator for GTE Company from 1957-1963 and from 1969-1987 as a nursing assistant at the Cedar Lake Home. Virginia enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidering, collecting elephant figurines, canning, playing Bingo and cards, watching game shows and doing word searches. Virginia baked and cooked endlessly with the fresh fruit and vegetables from her garden. Her passion for cooking and baking brought family and friends together on numerous occasions, the time of which she especially loved.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband of 74 years, Norman; loving children, David (Jolene) Zimmerman of Pardeeville and Darlene (John) Collins of Hartford; Cherished grandchildren, Lisa Granum, Laura Zimmerman, John Collins Jr., Stephanie (Matt) Sheahan and Daryl Zimmerman; precious great-grandchildren, Austin and Ashton Granum, and Stella, Mya and Dylan Sheahan. Virginia is also survived by her sister Geraldine (Calvin) Moths of Arizona City, AZ and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, George Jr., Neal, William and John; and four sisters, Mary, Beatrice, Lucille and Ardice.

A Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 799 St. Paul Dr. Slinger, WI 53086, with Rev. Robert Fleischmann presiding. Visitation will be at church on Friday, November 1, from 11 a.m. until 12:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 1185 W. Sumner St. Hartford, WI 53027.

Memorials are appreciated to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church (799 St. Paul Dr. Slinger, WI 53086).

Virginia’s family would like to express a sincere and heartfelt “thank you” to the staff at the Gardens of Hartford for their care, compassion and loving support as well as to the Horizon Hospice that helped in the last days of Virginia’s life.
