September 27, 2019 – Hartford, WI –Sheldon Patrick Carr, 68, passed away on September 24, 2019, following a long illness.

Sheldon Patrick Carr

Sheldon grew up in what he liked to call “Smallville,” otherwise known as Hartford, WI. He attended St. Killian School through 8th grade and then went on to attend Hartford Union High School, graduating in 1969 where he developed and had maintained strong bonds with his “pals” from Hartford. Sheldon attended college at UWM, first studying Meteorology and then Electronic Engineering. He returned to college graduating with a BS in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University in 2009, where Sheldon was recognized for his scholastic achievement as a member of Kappa Alpha Honor of Delta MU Honor Society.

In the mid 1970’s Sheldon started his career in the Engineering Department at Micro Design which resulted in the development of lasting friendships and jocularity. In the early 1980’s Sheldon started his own business, Planitronics, which designed and built electronic circuit boards. Sheldon demonstrated great business acumen as Planitronics quickly became a thriving business, resulting in the ability to hire a full staff and building expansion.

In the 1990’s, Sheldon left Planitronics behind and went to work as a Project Engineer at Erie Mfg. Simultaneously, Sheldon took on a new role as an Engineering Professor at Waukesha Technical College, where he readily shared his engineering knowledge with eager students. Later in the 1990’s, Sheldon had the itch for entrepreneurship again and along with his family’s support, built Site Electronics. Site designed and developed consumer products whereby Sheldon successfully obtained 13 patents and developed a product that UL Laboratories listed as the safest of its kind on the market. It was a huge thrill for Sheldon when one of these patented projects was included on the Discovery Channel’s “Modern Marvels” series, “Bedroom Tech.”

Sheldon exemplified a passion and eagerness to learn, loved to laugh, enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, was politically driven and was an avid WI sports fan. More than anything Sheldon was a good man who loved his family, friends, and pets. One of Sheldon’s favorite hobbies was boating on Lake Michigan, and he jumped at the opportunity whenever he could. Sheldon will be remembered by his generosity, authenticity and as a man who had a wonderful time living life.

Sheldon will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Marianne Carr; his wife of 25 years Shirley; and his children including son Richard Carr, stepson Ryan (Lindsey) Greenawald and stepdaughter Kristin (Kyle) Orlowski. Sheldon will be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren Madelyn, Asher and Milena as well as his niece Elizabeth Carr, sister and brother in-laws, Donna, Clay & Anna, Wayne & Tina, and Diane, plus an additional 9 nieces and nephews throughout the USA. Sheldon was also blessed to have had many good friends which he viewed as family. Sheldon was predeceased by his father Sherman Carr and brother Michael Carr.

Funeral Services for Sheldon will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union Street Hartford, WI 53027. Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m. An Irish Wake will follow, location details will be announced at Sheldon’s service.
