July 22, 2019 – Town of Farmington, WI – The early application of CPR and an automatic electronic defibrillator (AED) saved a 59-year-old Town of Farmington man this past Friday, July 19. The man, with no prior cardiac history, was hosting a family gathering at his Green Lake home when he suddenly went unresponsive at 7:53 p.m.
The 26-year-old stepdaughter, who is a life guard trained in CPR, immediately recognized the signs of cardiac distress and started CPR.
“The early intervention of CPR by the stepdaughter provided the critical time needed to get first responders on scene with the AED,” said Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis. “Thanks to her, this man has a second chance at life.”
The Sheriff said, “Stories like this clearly demonstrate the importance for everyone to know basic CPR. One day you may need it to save a loved one, just as this stepdaughter did.”
A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene and provided Fillmore First Responders with an AED which was used to shock his heart back into rhythm.
The man regained consciousness before he was transported to the hospital.
Speaking with a family representative, the man recovered and is set to be released today, Monday, July 22.
