UPDATE | Man in custody following standoff in Hartford

June 30, 2019 –  Hartford, WI – An 80-year-old man was taken into custody at a home in Hartford on Sunday afternoon, June 30 after the man allegedly fired a shot and held authorities at bay for two hours.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department a family member at the home called authorities at 2:15 p.m.

 

An 80-year-old man was reportedly intoxicated and got in to an argument with family. At one point the man reportedly fired a round into the ceiling.

Family members retreated to the lower level of the residence.

The tactical team got family out of the building safely.

Authorities began negotiations with the man with the gun.

The man was safely taken into custody about 4:30 p.m.

The man will undergo a medical evaluation.

The Sheriff is recommending charges of reckless use of a firearm and reckless use of a dangerous weapon to the District Attorney.

A portion of Highway 60 on the west side of Hartford was closed for about two hours.

The road has now reopened per the Wash. Co. Dispatch Center.
