Kettle Moraine Lutheran gears up for spring sports season | By Jordyn Heckendorf

March 18, 2019 – Jackson, WI – Believe it or not, spring is just around the corner! Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School athletes and coaches are “springing” into action to prepare for the upcoming seasons. These outdoor spring sports include boy’s baseball and golf, girl’s soccer and softball, along with coed track.

All of these teams plan to pick up right where they left off and attempt to overcome the current winter weather struggles.

Kettle’s baseball team has most of its lineup from last season returning for the upcoming 2019 season. Last year, they finished only one game below .500 with a record of 12-13. Head coach, Darrell Washburn, comments on what to expect with their experienced team this year.

We have some good returning players and we play a tough schedule,” he said. “Hopefully, those things will prepare us once we get to the tournament. Pitching will definitely be a strength.  We will need to hit the ball better if we want to compete for a conference title.”

KML’s golf team will be without their former leader, Solomon Zarling, one of the top high school golfers in the state who holds the title of 1st-Team All-Conference and 2nd-Team All-State. However, rising star, Ethan Draeger, looks to fill his shoes as he was a freshman on the Varsity team last year with Zarling.

The girl’s soccer team made it to sectionals for division 4 in the previous season and carry with them a dominating amount of seniors to lead on the field this year. Finishing with an overall record of 7-9-2 in the 2018 season, the Chargers have high “goals” set in place to exceed expectations for the 2019 season.

The 2017-2018 season of track and field set the bar high with four conference champions (East Central Conference), 15 members advancing to sectionals, and senior, Brooke Kary, finished third at WIAA State for shot put. Keep a close watch to see what accomplishments the track and field will obtain this year.

KML’s softball team had one of the most successful seasons in the program last year; they were one game away from the State Semifinals in Division 3. The last time the softball team advanced that far was in 2000. Losing only four seniors and adding a few younger athletes for this year, the Chargers softball team is on a mission to go even farther in the playoffs while being bumped up to Division 2 for the 2019 season.
