Feb. 9, 2019 – West Bend, WI – Items for Operation Thank a Soldier will be collected today, Saturday, Feb. 9 during the DIVA event, Chocolate Around the Bend. One collection point is Savoring Thyme, 248 N. Main Street, in West Bend.
Our group is adopting 126 soldiers from the Army National Guard, 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry. The infantry unit, based in Appleton, includes companies from Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Clintonville, Marinette, Waupun and Ripon. Our group of soldiers is from Charlie Company and Headquarters Company. The Wisconsin soldiers will provide security for the 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The SFAB is tasked with providing training and assistance for the Afghan National Security Forces. Their mission is to provide security and protection for these advisers. They have been named the “guardian angels.”
While they have their backs, let’s have these Soldiers backs!!! We want these brave Soldiers to know WISCONSIN is behind them all the way. Let’s send the message loud and clear that we are proud of their service and sacrifice.
Our goal is to send 500 care packages during their nine month deployment to Afghanistan. Boxes will be mailed to 14 squad leaders between the two companies. Each squad leader will distribute to their eight soldiers.
Each box will contain notes, pictures, or cards. A main goal of this operation is to thank these soldiers! Cards and letters can be addressed to Dear Soldier as we will not know which soldier is receiving the letter when we box them.

Flavored Sunflower Seeds
Fruit snacks
Tuna or Chicken foil packets or Tuna/chicken to Gos W/crackers
Nuts (cashews, almonds, peanuts, Pistachios)
Trail mix
Single Serve Peanut Butter
Beef Jerky/Slim Jims
Packs of hard gum-like Dentyne (no stick gum since it melts in pockets)& caffeinated gum or jelly beans
Protein Bars/Clif Bars (NOT chocolate dipped ones)
Crystal light, lemonade & drink sticks/powder to add to water (like Mios). Individual ones are best.
