Village of Jackson weekly update

Jackson police

No major issues from the high winds on Wednesday, and St. Patrick’s Day was uneventful. Overall, though, the past week was unusually active.

The Chief attended a meeting at DOT headquarters in Madison on Wednesday regarding a new crash report that is being designed.

The new squad has been waiting for a final item to be installed and should be on the road this weekend.

Fire Department

Deep cleaning and the painting of the officers’ room has begun, along with the purging of unnecessary stuff. It’s believed that room was lasted painted in the late 1990’s.

Wednesday afternoon a multiple vehicle accident on STH 60 in front of Walgreen’s resulted in two minors being transported to the hospital. Neither of the individuals had life-threatening injuries.

Thursday afternoon at 2:42 p.m., the Jackson Fire Department was paged for a barn fire in the Town of Jackson. Due to the rural area and distance from our nearest water supply, mutual aid was requested from several neighboring fire departments to assist mainly in supplying water to the scene. Approximately 64,000 gallons were trucked to the scene using 11 water tenders from two different fill sites. A total of 13 fire departments assisted at the scene or staffed our station while we worked the fire.

Joint Parks and Recreation

The Scouts held their Court of Honor Tuesday evening at the JACC.

Thank you to the following people who helped stuff over 4,000 Easter Eggs on Wednesday evening: The Alfkes, Casey Latz, Sue Bliese, Renee Kreiter, Sue Rank, Laurie McGraw, Sarah Schober, Brittany Korneli, Leah Moederndorfer, and Jim, Andrew, Aubree, and Gavin Jeske.

The Seniors had a wonderful St. Patty’s Day party on Thursday and were thrilled with the entertainment of the Elvis impersonator. Elvis has left the building and they can’t wait to have him return!

Several applications for the 4k Teacher position have been received. Interviews will begin in mid-April.

Thursday, March 24 Jackson Elementary School will be conducting an evacuation drill at 8:30 a.m. Their evacuation site is the JACC gym. As there is no school that day, the drill will be for the staff only.

A group of thirty West Bend School District special education teachers and staff will be touring the 4k partner sites on Thursday. They will be at the JACC around 11:30 a.m.

Building Inspection

This week a building permit was released for the third 12 family building in Cranberry Creek #4 for Cranberry Creek Estates.

Three single family new construction permits were received this week.

Public Works

The Jackson Water Utility continues working on meter changeouts, Digger’s Hotline locates, radio installations, and repairing broken valve boxes. 267 disconnect notices were mailed out to the late payers. Disconnections are scheduled for Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Due to a deduct meter requested change, the review of private fire protection and deduct meter charges was completed with some corrections.

The Street & Parks Department performed building, vehicle, and small equipment maintenance, began work on the mowers, and replaced broken trash containers. The window insert for the concession stand in Jackson Park was rebuilt. Lawn restoration in parks and parkways from snow plow damage continues. High winds caused damage to a few trees and toppled a light pole on STH 60 by Walgreens.

The park restrooms will be open on the weekends beginning March 19.

A safety meeting is scheduled for March 22 at the Village Hall. Topics will include blood-borne pathogens and hearing protection.

A temporary digester boiler has been installed at the WWTP, allowing the boiler rehabilitation project to begin on Monday. The backordered circulating pumps were received and installed. The pressure gauges have arrived and will be installed, completing the project. The crew continues to televise sanitary sewer laterals during meter changeouts. Six to seven laterals are being televised per day when time permits. Four problems were uncovered requiring repair: three were on the utility’s side and one on the owner’s side.

The Wilshire Drive reconstruction project is being advertised for a March 22 bid opening. The informal information meeting invitation letter was sent to the properties in the project zone for the meeting scheduled for March 29th. Property owners are requested to schedule a sanitary sewer lateral inspection prior to the start of the project. Sump pump discharge locations will also be verified.
Clerk/Treasurer

Dog and cat licenses are required by March 31, 2016. A $10 late fee will be assessed after that date.
Absentee voting begins March 21 and continues through April 1st. Voters are reminded to bring photo identification. The Village Hall will be closed for business on Friday, March 25.

The transition from BMO to Westbury Bank has begun and the Clerk’s office is working toward a stress free transition.

The Village website has replaced Official Payments with GovPayNet as its new credit card merchant.

The Village auditor was here Wednesday and Friday of this week.
