Dec. 3, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Richard A. “Dick” Tharman, 80, of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2018 at Samaritan Health Center surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born on December 21, 1937 in Milwaukee to Oscar and Louise Tharman (Behling). On October 29, 1966, Richard was united in marriage to Elaine Hirschmann at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.
Richard graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1955. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Richard attended UW-Madison and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.
Richard was one of the founding fathers of Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson. He was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Bend. Some of Richard’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, trapping and making maple syrup.
Those Richard leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Elaine; three children, Mark (Lori) Tharman, James “Jim” Tharman, and John (Sheryl) Tharman; eight grandchildren, Valarie (Jason) Threlkeld, Brandon Tharman, Lillian Tharman, Melanie Tharman, Britini Tharman, Vanessa Tharman, Katie Tharman and Tyler Tharman; one great-grandson, Jeremiah Threlkeld. Richard is further survived by his sister, Carol (Harold) Schumacher; sister-in-law, Judy Tharman; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Tharman and infant granddaughter, Janelle Tharman.
Funeral Service for Richard will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (777 Indiana Avenue – West Bend, WI 53095) with Pastors Robert Hein and John Paustian officiating. Entombment will be at Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend following service.
Richard’s family will greet relatives and friends at Church on Thursday from 11 am until the time of service. Family requests that memorials be directed to Good Shepherd Building Connections or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson, Wisconsin.
Richard’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Kramer Cancer Center, Samaritan Health Center and Allay Home & Hospice for the loving care they provided.
