Joyce R. Gavin (nee Stern), 88, of Kewaskum, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum with her loving family by her side.
She was born on October 2, 1927 in West Bend, the daughter of the late Edward and Lorilla (nee Schacht) Stern and on June 9, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert “Gabby” Gavin at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Gabby preceded Joyce in death on July 20, 1995.
Joyce and Gabby were blessed with 8 children, four boys and four girls. They began raising their family in Kewaskum, later moving to Fillmore and then back to Kewaskum. Joyce was mainly a homemaker who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her grandchildren remember her as “The Cookie Grandma”. Joyce loved the Brewers, Packers and her favorite NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson #48.
Those Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory include seven children, Joan (Dan “Boon”) Buddenhagen of Campbellsport, Nancy (Roland) Anderson of Sheboygan, Russ (Susie) Gavin of Slinger, Gary (Linda) Gavin of Kewaskum, Karen (Lee) Stuver of Fond du Lac, Craig (Jean) Gavin of Kewaskum and Roger (Tracey) Gavin of Fillmore; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Schladweiler of Kewaskum; a special friend, Mary Marquart of Kewaskum, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband of 47 years Robert, Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter Geraldine; a grandson, Daniel Anderson; an infant brother Lloyd and three brothers-in-law, Sylvester “Rusty” Schladweiler, Bill (Polly) Gavin and Jim (Marion) Gavin.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March, 2, 2016, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main St, in Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath will be officiating and burial will follow the service in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
