Obit: Dennis Schacht, 72

Dennis E. Schacht, 72, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born September 18, 1943 in West Bend to the late Edward and Vera (nee Averill) Schacht.

Dennis graduated from West Bend High School in 1961 and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In 1965, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1968.

On November 8, 1969 Dennis married JoAnne Kacvinsky at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ashland and they made their home in West Bend. He was employed at Harley Davidson and later at Universal Brixius for 32 years, retiring in 2011.

Dennis enjoyed bowling, woodworking, yard work, photography, and spending time with his grandsons.

He was a member of Fr. Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnne; daughter Lori (Jeff) DeThorne of Madison; grandsons Reid, Myles, and Graham DeThorne; sisters Carol (Lowell) Fischer of Papillion, NE; Betty (Jim) Nixdorf of West Bend; and Barbara (friend Lillian Wiegel) Schacht of Greenfield; brother-in-law Alphonse Braun of Kewaskum; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Schacht Braun.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 22 at 6 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Repenshek presiding. Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church from 4 until 5:45 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund or to the Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County.

Dennis’ family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Mosely, Kathy Hospice, and special friends and neighbors Mike and Jamie Dutcher and family for their care and support of Dennis during his illness.
