VIDEO | Washington Co. Sheriff’s Office releases cause of Friday grass fire

 

March 24, 2018 – Town of Barton, WI – On Friday, March 23 at 12:26 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report of heavy smoke coming the area of the dead end of Sleepy Hollow Road in the Town of Barton. The first arriving Deputy determined it was coming from the area directly behind Blue Leasing which is located at 7405 Sleepy Hollow Road.

The West Bend Fire Department was paged and the call was upgraded to a MABAS call.  Fire Departments from Jackson, Kewaskum, Newburg, Allenton and Kohlsville responded to assist.

The fire was able to be extinguished by 12:56 p.m. It was determined an employee of the business was burning trash in a burn barrel on the north east side of the property behind the building.

 

 

 

 

 

A combustible lid was placed on top of the barrel which ignited and the flames spread.

Some scrap equipment and material was burned along with a semi-tractor sleeper.  In addition, approximately 2-3 acres of grass land which extended to the west right up to the shoulder area of the on-ramp to Hwy 45 northbound from Cty Tk D was burned.

There were no reported injuries associated with the fire. The damage estimate is between $7,500 and $10,000.  There is no further information to report at this time.
