March 12, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – There are 28 students participating in the UW-Extension’s five-week course on farm safety. Over the weekend the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department demonstrated a rescue from a grain bin.
Students learned about safety harnesses and how grain bins can be a death trap where farmers have suffocated after being buried alive. The firefighters demonstrated how they use an auger free someone trapped in corn. “You can see the corn is barely over his knees and he’s trapped and can’t get out,” said the lead instructor.
