Jan. 2, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – January is national radon action month and the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department is encouraging citizens to test their homes. Starting Tuesday, Jan. 2 both Health Department locations are offering free radon test kits to residents (one per household) while supplies last. Kits will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To receive a free radon test kit, visit the Washington County office, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m at 333 E. Washington St., Suite 1100, West Bend, 53095 or the Ozaukee County office, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 121 W. Main St., Room 246, Port Washington, 53074. The kits are simple to use with easy testing and mailing instructions.
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, causing an estimated 20,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the United States. Radon can leak into your home from the ground and soil beneath your home, and it is common throughout Wisconsin. By taking action now to prevent exposure to harmful radon gas, you can help to assure your future health.
