Please be aware of our first responders at emergency scenes

Oct. 24, 2017 – Town of West Bend, WI – On Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7:41 a.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Allenton Fire/Rescue responded to a single vehicle roll-over accident in the area of STH 144 and Church Drive in the Town of West Bend.

The operator, a 56-year-old Hartford woman, was north bound on STH 144 when she lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement, crossed the center line and hit a power pole in the west ditch line. The force of the impact sheered the power pole in two spots.

The driver needed to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel, but only had minor injuries. The hazards of the scene were compounded by the weather conditions, visibility of the crash scene and hanging power lines.

When you see emergency vehicles at any scene please remember they are present for a reason. A majority of our fire departments in the county are staffed by community volunteers rather that full-time personnel. More importantly, whether full or part time, they all are mothers or fathers, daughters or sons or sisters or brothers.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office would kindly ask you to keep that in mind as you cautiously pass by the scene.
