Obit: Wilmer A. Zahn, 99

 

Wilmer A. Zahn, 99, of Lomira, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Hope Health and Rehab, Lomira.

He was born on June 27, 1916 to the late William and Julia (nee Guell) Zahn in Fond du Lac. On June 17, 1939 he was united in marriage to Mildred Kietzer at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Wilmer was a life-long farmer who enjoyed working with cows, horses, and harvesting the bounty which the good earth brought forth. With his wife, Milly, he loved to travel and go camping. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing and catching speckled perch on Lake Okeechobee, FL. Bill was an accomplished motorcyclist, moped, and scooter operator, logging thousands of miles around the Wisconsin county side. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served on the church council, and was a member of the Lomira Lions Club. In his later years, he enjoyed reading western themed books. Bill was a world class cobbler, card shark (enjoyed playing sheepshead), and gardener.

He was a loving father, father-in-law, grandpa, and great grandpa. All who knew him loved and admired him for his charm, wisdom, and whit.

Those Wilmer leave behind to cherish her memories include his three children, William (Charlotte) Zahn of Sulphur Springs, TX, Charles (Paula) Zahn of Okeechobee FL., and Daniel (Sandra) Zahn of Lomira; six grandchildren, David (Angela) Zahn of Sulphur Springs TX., Phillip Zahn of Fort worth TX., John (Nancy) Arenz of Big Lake MN., William (Tina) Zahn of Arcadia FL., Ryan (Shannon) Zahn of Leroy, Rebecca (Brad) Jasman of Lomira; granddaughter-in-law, Dana(Chris) Clay of Okeechobee FL.; 9 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; 4 step greatgrandchildren; sister, Lois Stromberg of Ocala Fl.; good friend, Dan Feucht; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Milly; daughter, Kathleen Arenz; grandson, Kevin Zahn; three sisters, Ruth (Harold) Konz, Lucille (Elwood) Kastorff, and Arleen (Lester) Damm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester (Bernice) Kietzer and Dorothy (Jerome) Luedtke.

A memorial service in remembrance of Wilmer will be held on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 550 Water St., Lomira. Burial of his cremated remains will follow the service at Theresa Union Cemetery.

Wilmer’s family will greet family and friends at the church Saturday June 25, 2016

from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorials in Wilmer’s name can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church building fund.
