Sept. 11, 2017 – Kewaskum, WI – Flags are flying at half staff today following an order by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.
The Governor of Wisconsin has ordered flags to fly at half-staff, Monday, September 11, 2017, as a mark of respect to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the brave men and women in uniform who answered the subsequent call to defend our freedoms at home and abroad.
In accordance with this order, please ensure that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin are flown at half-staff at all state facilities, beginning at sunrise Monday, September 11, 2017, and ending at sunset on that same date.
In Kewaskum this morning neighbors gathered along with students from Holy Trinity and the local high school for a ceremony to honor those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
State Representative Jesse Kremer gave a powerful speech about national security and the American spirit.
At the start of the service Kewaskum Police Chief Tom Bishop introduced the choir from Kewaskum High School and members of the Kewaskum American Legion post who presented the colors.
Village Administrator Matt Heiser spoke about “feeling a sense of community” during times of tragedy and how the 9/11 memorial on Fond du Lac Avenue provides a connection to folks in New York City where the Twin Towers were destroyed. wan
