Sept. 8, 2017 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger High School junior varsity football team hosted the Hartford Union High School Orioles on Thursday evening. The game was a kick off to the annual Coaches Versus Cancer weekend which raises funds for cancer research.
The scoring started with Slinger’s Logan Homberg throwing a 53-yard pass to Conner Goodwin, the point after by Luke Wetherall was good and at the end of the first quarter Slinger was on top 7 – 0.
Near the end of the first half, Homberg made a 35-yard pass to Goodwin, the point-after kick was unsuccessful, bouncing off the upright and Slinger led 13 – 0.
With less than 3 minutes into the third quarter Homberg completed a pass to Travis Dufour for a 26-yard play to score a touchdown, a 2-point conversion with a pass from Wetherall to Sam Dodge was good and Slinger led 21 – 0.
The fourth quarter saw Hartford open with a 19-yard passes from quarterback Jake Frantl to Cade Jenders followed by a successful point after by Cade Zimdars.
Slinger answered back with a 3-yard pass from Homberg to Dodge; Wetherall’s kick for PAT was successful.
Hartford’s quarterback Frantl answered 45 seconds later with an 8-yard pass to Kobi Kirsch and Zimdars accomplished the point after kick.
Closing out the scoring for the night came with a pick off by Connor Goodwin and a 28-yard return for a touchdown and Luke Wetherall was effective with his final PAT kick.
Final score saw Slinger beat Hartford Union 35 – 14.
