Obit: Maxine LaNor Sternig (nee Henkel), 90, of West Bend,

 

August 1, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Maxine LaNor Sternig (nee Henkel), of West Bend, passed away on Friday, July 28, at Ivy Manor in West Bend. She was surrounded by family members while listening to her favorite music.

Maxine was born January 27, 1927, in Milwaukee, the only daughter of Leonard and Mildred Henkel. On April 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Michael J. Sternig at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Milwaukee. Michael preceded Maxine in death on May 1, 1989.

While her sons were growing up, Maxine was involved in school and parish life at Our Lady of Sorrows in Milwaukee. She will be remembered for her love of family and her penchant for a witty remark or two as a spectator at sporting or family events or while playing cards.

Those who will continue to share her memory include five sons: Ronald Sr. (Janie), Dennis (Diane), Michael (Linda), Randy (Debbi), and Terry (Karen); thirteen grandchildren: Shelley (Eric) Mraz, Ronald Jr.(Jessica), Dean (Sarah), Deann (Dennis) Merten, Dawn (Christian) Thommen, Matthew (Heidi), Mark (Elizabeth), Luke (Jennifer), John (Kayla), Chrystal (Ryan) Otto, Kyle (Stormy), Amanda (Jared), and Brandon; and 27 great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Olivia, Shana, Courteney, Stephanie, Becky, Bryan, Megan, Staci, Mallory, Christian, Nathan, Haley, Isabelle, Tyler, Noah, Greta, Hannah, Arya, Ellyson, Emmylia, Nora, Felicity, Trinity, Sophia, Eliza, and Daniel. She is further survived by in-laws: Philip Sternig, Trudy Symonik, Elsie Sternig and Lorraine Sternig, and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, parents, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Maxine was preceded in death by four great-grandchildren: Dustin, Dillion, Dakota and Arlo.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 2, at Holy Angels Church, 126 North 8th Avenue, West Bend, at 7 pm. Maxine’s family will greet relatives and friends from 4 pm until 6:45 pm in the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund are appreciated. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Ivy Manor and to the staff of Serenity Hospice Care.
