KML adds team to Trap Shooting League

Kettle Moraine Lutheran High  School will be adding a local trap shooting league to its list of extra-curricular activities.

Athletic director Len Collyard made plans to join the local league through the Hartford Conservation and Gun Club and the Daniel Boone Conservation League.

Collyard said the trap shooting league will be a first in school history.

Prior to KML’s entry into the league, nine high schools have been competing including Slinger, Menomonee Falls, and Arrowhead. Through this league, participants are able to earn an athletic letter for their merits, just like other varsity sports.

KML students have shown definite interest in the club, as over 40 people have already committed.

KML senior Adam Eckelberg is excited for the league to start. “I’ve been waiting for trap shooting to come to KML for a while,” he said.

The head coach of the club will likely be the Chargers’ head varsity football coach Mark Heckendorf.

The league begins Feb. 13 and runs through June 27. The entry fee is $95 per student, and each person must have their own firearm.

Shooting will take place at the Hartford Conservation and Gun Club, as well as other neighboring clubs.
