Slinger Mom appreciates opportunity U.S. Open gave her son | By Ron Naab

June 20, 2017 – Slinger, WI – Cindy Retzlaff of Slinger related an awesome story about the people working the U.S. Open this past week.

Her son Matthew, a Slinger High School student with special needs, had been anxiously awaiting the U.S. Open at Erin Hills.

The closer the date came, the more anxious he became.

So the Thursday before the official week was here, Cindy took Matthew past Erin Hills to see it.

She noticed a sign at one of the gates which read, “Car Parkers Wanted.”

She got an application and had Matthew fill it out.

The following Saturday they took the application along with a photo I.D.and  Matthew got an opportunity for an interview.

Matthew was told he would be assigned to the grounds at Washington County Fair Park.

Monday came and the pair went to the Fair Park where Matthew introduced himself and said he was there to park cars.  As Matthew walked across the parking lot, the main boss called Matthew back to see him.

Mark Bolla, known as ‘Coach’ said, “I like your attitude and personality. I am going to appoint you to be a greeter.”

Matthew absolutely loved his appointment and was very excited every morning to go to work; even in the rain or on the very hot days, he had no complaints.

Cindy wants to let ‘Coach’ and the others involved in the U.S. Open to know she and Matthew truly appreciate the opportunity and that they believed in Matthew.
