Obit: Joseph “Joe” Gruber, 85, of the town of Auburn

June 19, 2017 – Town of Auburn, WI – Joseph “Joe” Gruber, 85, of the town of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Kettle Moraine Gardens, Kewaskum.

He was born on November 3, 1931 to the late John and Mary Ann (nee Goretski) Gruber in Kewaskum. He attended Kewaskum high school before joining the United States Army where he honorably served during the Korean War. On July 5, 1951 he was united in marriage to Taeko Takamine in Okinawa. Together they raised 10 children. Joe was always tinkering on things trying to fix them right. He was very active in the Union. Joe liked fishing, hunting golfing and playing cards. He loved music, singing, playing the squeeze box, and harmonica. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Those Joseph leaves behind to cherish his memory include his 10 children, Hatsue (Hisao) Yoshimoto of Okinawa, Mary Richards of Port Washington, Cathy Engelman of Superior, Patricia Takamine of Mukwonago, Tony (Pam) Gruber of North Fond du Lac, Monica (Dennis) Kelley of Fond du Lac, Lena (Tom) Hennessy and John Gruber both of Campbellsport, Gene (Pam) Gruber of Milwaukee and Rick (Michelle) Gruber of Oshkosh; 35 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Joyce (Alan) Stutzman; a brother, Harlan (Dolly) Gruber; four sisters-in-law, Alice Gruber, Yaeko of Waukesha and Harue and Shizue both of Okinawa; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Benjamin and Joseph Jerominski; three brothers, Walter Gruber, Robert (Jeanette) Gruber, and Andrew Gruber; his father and mother-in-law, Spikishi and Ushi Takamine; two brothers-in-law, Osamu and Minoru and five sisters-in-law, Teruko, Nobuko, Hideo, Nae and Seiei.

A Funeral services for Joseph will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. at the Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Home, 215 Forest Ave., Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath officiating and burial to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery in Kewaskum.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
