Obit: Former Hartford alderwoman Sara Falkenstein, 76

Sara A. Falkenstein (nee Chesmore) age 76 years of Hartford, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Cedar Lake Community in West Bend.

She was born on May 24, 1939 in Horicon, WI to Eunice (nee Holland) Chesmore. Sara was united in marriage to Gerald Falkenstein on June 3, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon, WI.

Sara graduated from Horicon High School in 1957. She received her diploma from Dodge County Teachers College in 1959. She received her B.S. in Lower Elementary Education from Wisconsin State University – Oshkosh in 1964.

Sara taught school in Lannon, Erin and Hartford. Following retirement, she occasionally tutored elementary students having some difficulties.

She was a city alderperson in Hartford from 1986 -1995. She served as the Aldermanic Liaison to the Hartford Public Library Board from 1991- 1995. Sara served as the President of the Mid-Moraine Municipal Association. Sara also served as the organist in many area churches along with giving piano lessons to many students. She directed church choirs and also the Senior Friends Choir. She was on the founding board of the Schauer Arts and Activities Center serving as the secretary of the board. Before having a debilitating stroke, she ushered at the Schauer Center.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jerry; her children, Margaret (Leo III) Hoag and Chris Falkenstein; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Elizabeth) and Brandon Lindberg; step grandchildren, Rachel and Timothy Hoag; her sister, Jenny Lee Lang; and siblings-in-law, Carolyn (Ned) Lepien and Eugene (Jane) Falkenstein. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Harvey and Renora Falkenstein.

Funeral services for Sara will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2015 at 4:oop.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union Street, Hartford) with Rev. Daniel Babinec officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 – 4:00p.m.

Inurnment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Huilsburg, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Schauer Arts Center or St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woodland would be appreciated.
