Obit: Lloyd H. Spaeth, 80, of Kewaskum

 

June 15, 2017 – Kewaskum, WI – Lloyd H. Spaeth, 80, of Kewaskum, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Wauwatosa.

 

Lloyd was born on September 26, 1936, the son of the late Clarence and Adela (Hentz) Spaeth in West Bend. On April 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to Katherine “Kathy/Dolly” Braun at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Michael’s.

 

Lloyd was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Casper Rehrl Council #1964 in West Bend. He was the second of four generations that graduated from Holy Angels Grade School in West Bend and graduated from West Bend High School in 1954 where he was a standout track athlete. Lloyd then attended Marquette University and was a proud “Warrior” fan. Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957.

He was an Engineer at West Bend Company for over 25 years and retired from Bemis in 1998, over the years, acquiring many patents.

 

Most recently, Lloyd was instrumental in getting life jackets and inflatable rafts and slides for the Kewaskum Kiwanis Park Pool.

He was a very active volunteer in local governments and organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Tootsie Roll Drive for the disabled. Lloyd was an avid sports fan, particularly the Packers and Marquette.

You could always find him at his grandchildren’s activities. Above all else he loved his family get-togethers and was an amazing role model for all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

 

Those Lloyd leaves behind to cherish his memory include his love of his life of 59 years, Kathy; 8 children, Terry (Mike) Melaney of West Bend, Jack Spaeth of Belgium, Mary (Tom) Loduha and Karen (Tom) Wilde both of West Bend, Donna (Don) Scharfenberg of Hartford, Bob Spaeth of North Carolina, Andy (Janice) Spaeth of Random Lake, and Pete (Sheila) Spaeth of West Bend; 21 grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Stock, Sarah, Shannon, and Brandon Melaney, Nathan, Justin (Caitlin), and Katelyn Loduha, Stephanie, Nicole, and Kyle Wilde, Eric and Alex Scharfenberg, Elizabeth (Lee) Benfield, Jenni (Travis) Markiewicz, Zachary, Jacob, and Mitchell Spaeth, Dakoda and Paityn Spaeth, and Jennica and Mackenzie Newkirk; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Diane) Spaeth of Richfield; a sister, Ruth (Jim) Rady of Kewaskum; two brothers-in-law, Frank and Al Braun; a sister-in-law, Priscilla Biertzer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters-in-law.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lloyd will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, in Kewaskum. Rev. Edwin Kornath will officiate and burial will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the parish cemetery.

 

Lloyd’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday, from 2 p.m. until the time of Mass.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum or charity of your choice is appreciated.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Froedtert Hospital of Wauwatosa and the Kewaskum Rescue Squad for the wonderful care and compassion provided to Lloyd and his family.

 

The Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Homes have been entrusted with Lloyd’s arrangements.
