June 5, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Lorraine H. Schmidt (nee Baerenwald), of West Bend, age 90 ½, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Samaritan Health Center. She was born to Herman Sr. and Erna (nee Pipkorn) on November 16, 1926 in Cedarburg.
She graduated Slinger High School Class of 1944 and she married Calvin E. Schmidt on November 25, 1944 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Slinger.
She worked on the farm at 2164 County Highway NN in West Bend. Lorraine was a member of Hope Reformed Church, Washington County Historical Society, Washington County Farm Bureau, Milwaukee Milk Producers and the Tuesday afternoon ladies bowling league at Lighthouse Lanes.
She enjoyed working in the Farm Bureau stand at the Washington County Fair, loved cooking, baking, canning peaches and pickles, making butterhorns, doing embroidery and painting.
Lorraine also loved listening to polka music, WTKM, bingo, the English Royal Family, watching the Packers, The Joy of Music, Inspiration Time, Family Feud and Hour of Power. Above all, she loved birdwatching and time with her family. Her therapy was bowling, being with the girls and helping others.
She is survived by her children, Ruth A. (Gary) Smith, Carol J. (Wayne) Madore, Paul C. (Christine Bruss) Schmidt; grandchildren, John (Kimberly) Horlamus, Laurie (Rick) Bremmer, Nathan (Renee) Schmidt, Erienne (Huntz) Guttmann; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Aubrey Horlamus, Alayna and Shane Guttmann, Ella Schmidt; sister Elva Schall; sister-in-law Darleen Baerenwald; four-legged friends, Buddy, Poodie, Maggie, Lambeau and NASCAR. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Calvin; parents; parents-in-law; brother Herman Baerenwald Jr.; siblings-in-law, Henry and Viola Rosenthal and Eugene Schall.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Drive, West Bend). The Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8 from 4:00 until the time of service at 6:00 PM. Interment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park on Friday, June 9 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Reformed Church, Freistadt Historical Society or Washington County Historical Society.
